Yikes! That was like reading the fine print on my mobile telephone plan, but, fortunately, I had AI to help me get through all the financial stuff I didn't understand. So, let me see if I now understand what you've written. We're in deep financial trouble, and we have only ourselves to blame. Thus, the "Own goal" comparison.

Everybody is very interested in money, but the nuts and bolts of economics can be very daunting for the average person. It reminds me of an LBJ quote. Lyndon B. Johnson once said, "Did you ever think that making a speech on economics is a lot like pissing down your leg? It seems hot to you, but it never does to anyone else."

Kudos to you for making a tough subject interesting.
